Caries is the transmissible, bacterially generated pH disease process causing tooth decay. Repair and restoration of damage caused by caries does not treat the infection. Caries management by risk assessment (CAMBRA) represents a paradigm shift. It treats dental caries as an infectious disease that is curable and preventable.
